The mother wants to tell her daughter that she ought not to leave her home, cast her jewels to the blowing breezes, leave her mother who loved her so dearly and nurtured her delicately, and grieve her fiance who is riding forth to wed her.

Ans. No, the mother’s appeal does not have any effect on the girl. It fell flat on her, that is it failed to impress her. The girl finds the voices of the fairy folk calling her absolutely irresistible.

3. How are the worldly pleasures compared with the pleasures of the fairy land?

Ans. The worldly pleasures like the bridal songs and cradle songs have a tinge of melancholy in them. They are compared to the laughter of the sun and the wind of death whereas the pleasures of the fairy land are intrinsically sweet and there is nothing bad in them.
